SMILE, CLC’s customer service program, stands for Service, Mission, Integrity, Leadership, and Excellence.Abi Carlton – Life Enrichment Coordinator

Recently, a resident moved into Clermont Park for a short stay rehab with a diagnosis of end stage cancer.  The resident’s goal was to get strong enough to go home and live with her daughter and get hospice services.

At the initial Meet and Greet, the family expressed how wonderful their first meeting with Abi had been.  The resident and family were so anxious being in a new setting and did not know what to expect.  Abi began talking to the resident and asking about her life and things she liked to participate in.  The resident mentioned that she loved music.

At that moment, Abi left the room for a short moment returning with her guitar to play some music with the resident. This touched the resident and family’s hearts so much that they felt great joy in the coming days and were not only relaxed, but happy to be at Clermont Park.

Over the course of the stay the resident’s condition worsened and she passed away.  Abi was right there playing her guitar as we all escorted the resident and sang “Amazing Grace.”
