Promise-Star (2)PROMISE Stars live out these customer service principles: Personalize interactions, Respect each person, Own each person’s problem as if it’s yours, Make everyone’s life better, Invite people to connect and Exceed expectations.

Joe Jacobs, Life Enrichment Associate II

During a holiday celebration, a group of Dickens carolers were leading participants from all levels of living in joyful songs and residents enthusiastically joined. One neighbor from the Goldenrod memory support neighborhood was very excited, joining in with her own rhythm, clapping, tapping on the table and singing with gusto. To some it may have appeared disruptive to the other participants and perhaps causing some discomfort.  However, if one looked closely, they would see Joe Jacobs, sitting by the resident, holding her hand, joining her in rhythm and song. Joe helped this resident transition movement and song into the beat and rhythm of the carolers. He validated the resident’s joy by joining her and conducting the songs with her. By being present and supportive of the resident Joe helped “normalize” her gestures and robust participation and made for a spotlight moment. In fact, it was so touching that many of the participants stopped after the party to ask if the resident had previously worked as a choir conductor! They were thrilled to see her having so much fun and leading everyone in song.  Please identify what core values, service basics and Eden Principle are evident in this story.
